The project is located in the Nou Moles neighborhood of Valencia, an area of the city connected to the Turia River with a history dating back to Roman and Arab times. The plot, measuring just over 200 m², is situated between two buildings from the early 20th century.
The proposal consists in constructing a thick perimeter wall around the entire plot, which enables the creation of large terraces both facing the main street and overlooking the big inner courtyard that captures light from the west.
The thickness of this wall allows for the concentration of kitchen, storage, and utility spaces within the facade planes. On the party walls, the separation consolidates the stairs and elevator. This design approach frees up the remaining interior spaces, allowing them to be conceived as a large, multifunctional area.
The classical composition of the openings on the main facade creates a rigid construction, yet it is capable of adapting and accommodating infinite uses throughout the building’s lifetime. The openings on the ground and first floors are unified, creating a higher-order base that, despite its larger scale, establishes a closer relationship with the pedestrians.
Despite being located in a well-established urban environment, the lack of nearby, high-quality public space necessitates the creation of a public area on the ground floor. The design includes two sequential yet distinctly defined spaces. The first is a reception and café area, accessible to both neighborhood residents and hotel guests. This is followed by a common lobby connected to an interior courtyard. The latter, with a more private character, is complemented by a sun deck and a pool for the relaxation of visitors.
