HOUSE 001 is the refurbishment of an apartment located in a unique 1950s building in Valencia. The starting point of the project is the recognition of a load-bearing brick wall structure in its perimeter and significant concrete beams in both directions. Consequently, the organization of the spaces is determined by the metrics of the beams in the ceiling. This strategy is especially evident in the living area, which, despite being open, is formally organized through its structure.
The kitchen sets the pattern of bands that articulate the rest of the space. The third band, attached to the party wall, materializes as a large wall-to-wall cabinet that completes the composition. The last room enjoys a terrace, a space for relaxation overlooking a pleasing landscaped shared courtyard.
Views towards greenery is another distinctive feature of the intervention. The windows frame a vegetal environment that surrounds the entire dwelling, while allowing ample natural light to enter its interior. In the morning, the sun hits directly in the bathrooms and terrace, and in the afternoon it allows sunset views from the living-dining area during the summer months.
