HOUSE 002 is the extension and renovation of an old 20th-century house in the historic center of La Canyada, Valencia. Originally conceived as a summer retreat for the inhabitants of Valencia and nearby municipalities, the area gradually evolved into a residential nucleus.

The strategy of the intervention is based, on one hand, on its status as an out-of-regulation urban property and, on the other, the addition of inappropriate rooms to the original house over the years. Therefore, the project involves the consolidation and renovation of the original core, composed of solid brick walls and columns, and a wooden and tiled roof.
In addition, the floor area is increased by adding a C-shaped volume that embraces the original core. This new section has a contemporary, lightweight character and opens up to the landscaped garden. It is constructed with steel columns and beams, corrugated metal decking, and is surrounded by a balloon-frame structure of wooden slats, insulation, and exterior panels.

The spaces are arranged in such a way that the bedroom and bathrooms, the most private part of the house, are concentrated in the original core. The kitchen, dining room, living room, and office are located towards the garden to enhance the sense of space.
