HOUSE 009 is a single-family home located in Bétera, Valencia. It presents a design challenge due to the dimensions of its plot, with a width of approximately twelve meters and a depth of over thirty-five meters. The minimum setback restrictions on the side boundaries result in narrow corridors that could become wasted spaces.
To compensate this limitation, a series of intermediate spaces have been created, forming recesses in the facade of the house that offer spaciousness around its entire perimeter. These recesses, materialized on the floors as platforms, extend to the boundaries of the plot, facilitating the creation of longer cross views from the interior.
The house is the result of hollowing out a large mass. It is a compact and robust home, like a solid volume that has undergone a process of subtraction, creating deep voids that define these intermediate spaces. The constructed piece is conceived as a large mass that has been hollowed out, giving the project a heavy, stereotomic, and sculptural character.
For the layout, the orientation of the plot is used to organize the service spaces towards the north (entrance, bathrooms, and laundry), while the bedrooms and kitchen are arranged sequentially towards the south. The spacious living-dining room opens to the west, protected from direct sunlight by a large porch that integrates the interior and exterior. This space, although clearly exterior, is contained within the main volume of the house.
The sculptural character of the proposal is reinforced by the imposing chimney and the unique circular pool that distinguishes the main patio.
