BUILDING 004 is a senior living pilot project in the historic center of Xixona. A key location is chosen for the revitalization of the town’s historic center, as well as for the integration of the new community into the social and urban context.
The proposal not only presents a new housing model for the elderly, but also addresses various issues that obstruct the urban regeneration of the historic center. These include the steep slope of nearby streets, as well as the poor accessibility and connection between key elements in the urban fabric, such as Plaza Nueva and Avenida de la Constitución. To solve this, the project incorporates a vertical communication core that facilitates both the building’s internal circulation and urban accessibility.
The building façades are designed as a membrane of columns that adjusts their spacing and size based on factors such as sunlight, prevailing winds, and privacy.
The decision to place the structure on the perimeter allows for a column-free floor plan. This creates an open, flexible space that can evolve over time according to the needs of the residents.
